DHS Team Participates in International Economics Competition

Last spring, nine amazing DHS students and one DHS teacher were selected to be one of the first American delegations to an international economics competition held in Germany each year. The Young Economic Summit (YES!) challenges teens, under the guidance of their teacher and with the help of international professionals, to create solutions to some of the world’s problems.

The DHS YES! team was assigned “The Dark Secret of Chocolate: How Can We Support Sustainable Cocoa Cultivation?” The students spent the summer studying the problems in the chocolate industry and working on solutions.

Last week, the team competed in the virtual YES! where they delivered their research and ideas. They fielded tough questions from their international peers as well as from a team of experts and politicians. The Dunwoody team listened to and analyzed the ideas and solutions from other teams with varying topics from the U.S., Switzerland, England, Austria, Germany, and Hong Kong. Although Dunwoody did not win the competition, all involved agreed that it was an amazing experience that helped everyone grow as learners, researchers, and competitors.
