Bio

David Gay is delighted to be a new member of the Dunwoody High faculty. With over twenty years of teaching experience, he taught at Alpharetta High School and Bozeman High School in Bozeman, Montana, creating and developing theatre programs at both schools, in addition to, coaching competitive speech teams. An adjunct professor in speech communication at Montana State University, he directed the MSU Young People's Shakespeare productions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night.

At Alpharetta High, David directed the plays Twelfth Night, The Diary of Anne Frank, Rumors, You Can’t Take It With You, The Matchmaker, Galaxy Video, The Crucible, Scapin', Almost Maine, Harvey, The Skin of Our Teeth. Musical direction at Alpharetta includes Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Once Upon a Mattress, Pippin, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma!, The Wedding Singer, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Hairspray, The Pajama Game, and The Drowsy Chaperone. Mr. Gay is especially proud to be a past nominee for Shuler Hensley Awards for Excellence in Musical Theatre for his direction of Guys and Dolls and The Wedding Singer, and for stage lighting for Oklahoma!. The AHS production of Guys and Dolls was selected as a Best Musical nominee and the musical number Take Back Your Mink was presented on the Shuler Hensley awards show at Cobb Energy Center, aired on WSB-TV.

A National Forensic League "Triple-Diamond coach," Mr. Gay has coached dramatic, humorous and duo interpretation finalists at the national championships. Speech team provides students with additional opportunities to present dramatic works in a competitive venue, teaching students techniques in competition and professional presentation.

Teaching philosophy:
The goal of our theatre program is to provide an enriching environment for students to become more con3dent with themselves, and to progress as stronger creative thinkers and problem solvers. These lifelong skills will enable students to become more effective, polished communicators, prepared for a highly competitive business world. Additionally, our classes create a professional learning environment for students to grow and develop their theatrical craft in preparation for a career in the theatre.
